Timing-chain stability on the Rotax single-cylinder scooters relies on the tensioner stack behaving as designed, and AP0239015 is the “Spring 16.9” used on applications including Scarabeo 125–200 (Rotax) and Leonardo 125–150 in the 1992–2004 range shown. Spring rate and free length are set to maintain consistent chain tension as the engine heats and cools, reducing chatter and timing scatter.
When the tensioner is apart for service, replacing the spring is a sensible reset if there’s any set, corrosion, or inconsistent preload. Pair it with inspection of the tensioner body and guide surfaces, since wear elsewhere can mimic a weak spring.
