Valve clearance work lives and dies by repeatable shim sizing, and CM238808 is the 1.675 mm hardened valve shim pad used on SXV/RXV 450–550 and MXV 450 applications. The thickness is the working spec here, with the material and surface finish intended to resist brinelling under high spring loads.
Measure lash cold, confirm the existing shim thickness, then select the replacement size to land within the manual tolerance window. On these engines, keeping clearances tight but correct is key to stable starting and consistent valve sealing across heat cycles.
