The Ring Nut is a genuine spare part manufactured by Piaggio so you have peace of mind the Ring Nut part being sold by Motorcycle Spare Parts is both original and new.
Suspension retention hardware isn’t the place to improvise, and ring nut 860662 is the model-specified ring nut used in rear shock absorber assemblies on Caponord 1200 and Dorsoduro platforms. It interfaces with the shock mounting stack to maintain preload/retention under repeated load cycles.
If the original has been rounded off, galled, or previously over-torqued, replacement keeps the assembly serviceable with the correct tool engagement. Clean the threads and follow the factory tightening procedure to avoid cross-threading or false torque.
