When a gearbox rebuild calls for a specific ratio component, tooth count is the non-negotiable, and 5th pinion gear 849297 is the Z=23 part used on the 750 platform (Shiver/Dorsoduro applications shown). Gear geometry and hardening are matched to the OEM mesh for fifth gear operation.
Incorrect tooth count or profile will change the ratio and can compromise mesh pattern, noise, and durability. This gear should be installed with the correct companion gear and inspected for matching wear patterns, especially if only one component in the pair is being replaced.
